A birthday party fit for a dinosaur

Yesterday was my dad’s 75th birthday! Due to covid, we were limited on what we could do and who could come over, but we made the most of it. As most of you know, we had to have our family dog put down Thursday night, and we were all still pretty bummed about losing Joey. I went over to my mom and dad’s house Friday after work and decorated a little. My dad started crying when he saw the decorations. It wasn’t much, I just ordered a small pack of decorations from amazon and hung them up with duct tape. I’m not the fanciest person you will ever meet in your life and when I put things up, I don’t want them falling down until I am ready for them to come down. Don’t judge me! I realized I should probably explain why we call my dad dinosaur. My niece started calling him dinosaur one day and he started calling her turtle and it just stuck. Everyone calls him dinosaur. Anyway, my boyfriend and I went over to their house after picking up groceries and then my dad decided he wanted to go to one of his favorite restaurants for lunch. I was worried about going out in public due to the virus and the health issues that both of my parents have, but this is what he really wanted to do and it was his birthday. We were able to get a table that was pretty far from anyone else, and most of the crowd was gone shortly after we arrived. We came back home and ate some cake and just hung out for a little while. I would say that it was a pretty good day. I wanted to do what I could to make it special. I threw him a big party for his 70th birthday and I would have done the same for this birthday if it was possible. I remember ordering his 70th birthday cake from Wal-Mart. As you can see in the picture below, I used candy letters to write ‘Happy Birthday Dinosaur’. Of course, I had to have them write the same on his 70th birthday cake. You should have seen the lady’s face when I told her what I wanted written on it. She thought I was joking and probably a little crazy. Then she asked me how to spell dinosaur and that was a little hard to explain between both of us laughing. I told my mom that I wasn’t sure what the cake was going to say when we got it. It turned out perfect, dinosaur was spelled correctly, and he loved it. I’m not sure if I have a picture of that cake or not. If I do, I’ll post it in another blog one day.

Here is a picture of the birthday boy with his cake:

I think this is enough rambling for now. I’m still trying to figure out how often to post and what to post about. It’s really hot out, so actually going places and taking photos doesn’t happen much these days. Also, my boyfriend goes back to work today, so we are back to not getting to see each other much. We get Thursday and Friday nights when I get home from work and an hour or two Saturday and Sunday before he has to go to work.

I hope everyone had a great weekend. Be kind and stay safe!
