Columbia Bottom Conservation Area

Sunflowers are in bloom! Everyone’s favorite part of summer is back for the next few weeks at Columbia Bottom Conservation Area. Their beauty is worth the drive. If you’ve never experienced the feeling of standing in the middle of a sunflower field, you need to plan a trip to Columbia Bottom Conservation Area. I highly recommend going as the sun is setting. There is nothing better than seeing a neon sky behind beautiful sunflowers. There are at least three fields of sunflowers currently in bloom (as of July 14, 2021) at Columbia Bottom Conservation Area. They stagger out the planting of the sunflowers so that there are at least a few fields in bloom until early August.

Columbia Bottom Conservation Area is located in a flood plain at the confluence of the Missouri and Mississippi rivers. The gates are open 30 minutes before sunrise until 30 minutes after sunset. Drive slowly and you will see lots of wildlife, including birds, rabbits, and deer. Follow the sunflower signs to get to the sunflower fields. They also have an observation deck for viewing the sunflower fields. The sunflower field next to the deck had not yet bloomed when I was there last weekend. I will try and update this if I get another chance to go out and photograph the sunflowers and this field has bloomed.
